Not the first year Kumato tomatoes attract the attention of not only gardeners, but also consumers. The variety has a very unusual color for ripe fruit. Work on the development of this hybrid form was started 40 years ago by Syngenta geneticist Luis Ortego. The new tomato is called Olmeca F1, but in many countries it is better known as the Kumato brand.

Tomatoes with a high content of fructose were launched 10 years ago. Cultivating varieties are engaged in Spanish, Belgian, French, Dutch, Turkish and Greek producers. Currently, Russian gardeners and vegetable growers have a great opportunity to grow these unusual tomatoes.

Grade description

The height of tomato bushes "Kumato" can vary from 1.5 to 2.2 m. Ripe fruits are quite solid, have a red-brown skin with a slight greenish tint. Tomatoes have a low calorie content: 100 g of the fetus accounts for only 20 kcal. They are suitable for fresh consumption and are not used for canning.

The diameter of the fruit is about 5.5 cm, and the average weight varies from 85 to 125 g. The shape is round or oval. The ripe tomato pulp is red, very juicy and sweet, with a strong tomato aroma, and the acid is practically not felt in it. The fruits are rich in vitamins A and C, as well as potassium, magnesium and fructose.

The hybrid form "Kumato" has some features that must be considered when intending to get a good harvest.

Presowing preparation

Seed material needs pre-sowing preparation, which includes:

  • checking the germination of seeds by immersing them in a 5% saline solution: only seeds sown to the bottom are suitable for sowing;
  • seed disinfection in a pale pink solution of potassium permanganate;
  • washing the seeds and soaking them for 24 hours in a solution of special growth and development stimulants;
  • soaking the seeds before swelling or sparging the seeds;
  • hardening of dried seeds on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.

Features of sowing seeds

Sowing prepared seeds can be carried out both in independently prepared soil, and in the finished soil mixture. For self-production of the mixture, peat, humus and river sand should be mixed in a ratio of 60:30:10 (+1 glass of wood ash). Next, the mixture must be treated from pathogens by calcining it in the oven.

The duration of growing seedlings from seeds is one and a half months, and sowing should begin in mid-March. Prepared seeds should be buried in moist soil by 0.8-1 cm. Crops must be covered with a film to create optimal conditions for germination.

In the phase of the appearance of two or three true leaves, the seedlings are dived into separate containers, for further growth and development.

Seedling Care

After picking, the seedlings need regular watering and two-time fertilizing, with an interval of 2 weeks. With insufficient illumination of plants, fluorescent lamps should be used for several hours a day.

In order for the seedlings to grow healthy, strong and quickly adapt after planting to a permanent place, it is necessary to harden it in a few days - to take containers with young plants for a short time outside.

Transplanting to ridges

Fully ready for planting in open ground and on greenhouse ridges, seedlings have a height of 35 cm, a healthy appearance, a developed root system, thick and durable stems and leaves not affected by diseases. The standard number of leaves on the seedling bush should be from 8 to 10, and the thickness should be about 0.6 cm.

When planting in moist soil, 50 × 50 or 60 × 60 cm schemes should be used. The best landing is staggered. To deepen the stalks of tomatoes should be 2.5-3.5 cm, and overgrown - even further. You can not make fresh manure under the plants. After planting, the soil around the tomato bushes should be abundantly moistened and mulched with peat.

  • systematic irrigation with warm water as the top soil layer dries, followed by shallow loosening;

Black tomatoes of the hybrid form "Kumato" are grown by vegetable growers in our country relatively recently. Many gardeners plant seeds obtained from fruits purchased at the store, and as a result have a very good crop of exotic tomatoes.

Care for "Kumato" is the same as for the rest of the nightshade. Plants are not demanding in care and adapt very well to weather conditions. Many gardeners noted a certain lag in "Kumato" in growth at a certain stage of development, but then its bushes very quickly catch up, and sometimes even outperform tomatoes of other varieties.
